Certification and Proscodi

Certification means that some governing body makes a determination of qualifications by a variety of means. It may mean attaining a recognised standard of education, a written exam, going through a portfolio review, background check, or all of these. Only people who are certified can claim to be certified. Certification is an expensive and labour intensive process.

Licensing means a state or federal law prohibits anyone from practising unless they have met particular qualifications. For example, in most countries, you can not practice law or medicine unless you are licensed.

Certification and/or testing to “officially” recognise what constitutes a graphic designer is not part of Proscodi’s mission. However, by presenting a portfolio and references for review along with their membership application, prospect members will be showing that they believe they exhibit at least a basic level of professionalism and skills. All members will agree to abide by our ethics and professional standards.

Proscodi intends to stay neutral on the topic of Certification. Rather, it will be a resource for providing examples of ethical guidelines and best practices, all intended to better educate clients about the values and benefits of professional quality graphic design and marketing. The goal is to create a more trusting and smoother working relationship between clients and designers.
